1.

After introductions, Phil outlined the plans and ideas developed so far, as summarised in the Google document.

Alison expressed positive support, describing the idea as timely. The Parish Council has plans to set up a climate/green forum to involve different groups.

A timetable of events was outlined:

24th July: Kidlington Gala Day, with a 'green lane', involving beekeepers, Cherwell Collective, Dr Bike, Abundance, recycling and composting information, photographers, and consultation on how to improve green areas in the village and how best to use them. Other events can be publicised at the Gala Day.

Through October: Community Art Project based at St Mary's but involving all churches and other members of the community. Penny is consulting with Rosemary Meara about ideas for this.

2nd October: St Mary's Fields working party

2nd and 9th October: Abundance Apple pressing

10th October: Churches Together joint service to launch Novena with speaker Jack Wakefield from Tearfund

10th to 19th October: Churches Together Novena of prayer for the earth

24th October: St Mary's Fields Big Hay Rake

29th October: Pumpkin event at Exeter Hall, organised by Cherwell Collective, possibly combined with an Eco Fair organised by the Parish Council

30th October: tree and hedge planting in Lyne Road and along the railway line, tree giveaway and building of insect hotels and williow dens

2.

The overall aim of all the activities is to increase biodiversity and sustainability, and reduce consumption and waste in Kidlington. There is a need to be realistic about what we can achieve while also seeking to open a wider vision of what can be done.

We are aiming to provide an 'umbrella' under which a mosaic of activities, increasing information about and enabling a variety of 'greener' approaches can take place, leading up to COP26 and, hopefully, beyond it.

3.

Alison stated that all catering at Exeter Hall in future would use surplus food through Cherwell Collective.

Julia described how Abundance's policy is to encourage people to bring their surplus fruit to be juiced and shared

4.

A poll of those attending was held of a variety of different names suggested for the series of events. Revival for Survival scored most votes, with a strap-line such as Kidlington Green Festival.

5.

Publicity: Neil and Alison are to explore the possibility of a page on the Parish Council website. Other suggestions are:

- A Facebook page

- A page spread in Kidlington News

- Fliers in shops

- Garden signposts

- School newsletters – often now digital.

Revival for Survival: Kidlington Eco Festival

This October our village is hosting a series of community events to highlight and respond to the climate change crisis. Various community groups, churches and agencies are joining forces to share and create opportunities to contemplate, collaborate, and celebrate creation in the run up to the COP26 conference in Glasgow.

Why not: come along to an event that appeals, join a conversation, learn a new skill, paint a prayer, press an apple, sow a seed, or pledge yourself to action? Lets equip, encourage, and empower one another to make our village and planet a greener, bluer, brighter place?

Scroll down to browse the various events happening throughout October, and turn up or get in touch to find out more.
